MPS benefit-eligible employees pay a premium for their health insurance based on a percentage of their wages. Health insurance is provided through MESSA/BCBS. Eligible MPS employees are enrolled in the MESSA ABC 1 plan, which is a High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account (administered by Health Equity). Health Savings Account (HSA)
MPS benefit-eligible employees have access to a Health Savings Account through their Medical Insurance Plan. Midland Public Schools contributes funds to the employee’s HSA to help cover part of the cost of the deductible. Currently MPS contributes $1,050 per year for single coverage and $2,100 for 2-person and family coverage. Employees have the opportunity to deposit additional money to their HSA pre-tax from their paychecks. There are IRS guidelines each year that set the maximum amount allowed to be contributed to an HSA plan (employer and employee combined). The Health Savings Account is provided through Health Equity. MPS benefit-eligible employees do not pay a premium for their single vision insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. There is an option to add dependents to your vision insurance at a cost to the employee. Vision Insurance is provided through MESSA/VSP (Vision Service Plan). MPS employees do not pay a premium for their dental insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. Dental insurance is provided through CIGNA. MPS employees do not pay a premium for their Life/AD&D insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. Life/AD&D insurance is provided through Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co. Eligible employees receive a life insurance benefit of two times their salary, rounded up to the next thousand. AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment) has a schedule of benefits for loss of life or limbs due to an accident, up to the life benefit. Beneficiary change forms are available on request from the Benefits Specialist.

MPS employees do not pay a premium for their Long Term Disability (LTD) insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. LTD insurance is provided Madison National Life. Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the LTD plan.
