Midland Business Alliance Awards 2020

As part of the Midland Business Alliance’s (MBA) commitment to attracting and developing talent in Midland County, we are pleased to present the application for the 2020 Alliance Awards. The MBA will annually award three $1,500 scholarships to deserving students.


          • Must be a senior at a Midland County high school, or an undergraduate at one of the following institutions of higher learning: Central Michigan University, Davenport University, MidMichigan Community College, Greater Michigan  Construction Academy, Delta College, Northwood University, Saginaw Valley  State University, University of Michigan or Michigan State University

          • Students awarded an Alliance Award scholarship in the past may re-apply for consideration in subsequent years as long as all criteria is met

          • Must enroll as an undergraduate in a MBA-member institution of higher learning  (see list above)

          • Financial need may be taken into consideration

          • Must have volunteered for a community service project or agency

The application includes one brief essay question regarding the importance of the business community to the overall strength of the community. Winners will be selected and notified in early May. Scholarship funds will be distributed to the school unless special circumstances exist.

MASFPS Scholarship Information 2020

The Michigan Association of State and Federal Program Specialists (MASFPS) will award three state scholarships ($1500, $1000, and $500) to eligible high school seniors who are on track to graduate in the Spring of 2020. Selections will be based upon the NAFEPA Scholarship Application (link below). MASFPS will submit the applications of the top two Michigan awardees to NAFEPA for consideration for four (4) NAFEPA Scholarships of $2500 each. Please refer to the NAFEPA Scholarship information for scoring criteria.

The full amount of each MASFPS scholarship will be made payable to the recipient‘s institution of choice. It is the responsibility of each scholarship recipient to forward enrollment verification and a tuition invoice from the institution to the MASFPS Treasurer, Sam Ewing (address below). Please note that the scholarship is paid directly to the institution only after a letter is received from the institution verifying the student is enrolled.

Eligibility for MASFPS Scholarships:

  • Applicant must be a graduating senior of the Class of 2020
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a school or district that has at least one current MASFPS member on staff (the scholarship committee will check the status of the district/school’s MASFPS memberships prior to reviewing submitted applications).

Submission Directions for Applicant:
1. Complete the NAFEPA Scholarship Application and attach all required information and documents.
2. Submit one (1) original and one (1) copy of the completed NAFEPA application packet to the address below by January 6, 2020.
3. Application packets must be mailed directly to the address below. No hand-delivered or emailed applications will be accepted:

Midland Area Community Foundation Scholarships


Applications for the Midland Area Community Foundation Scholarships
will be accepted ONLY between December 1, 2019 -- March 1, 2020

To Apply:

  1. Go to www.midlandfdn.org for complete scholarship instructions.
  2. Click on “Apply Now” to enter eGrant to apply. You will be asked to create an account and it will step you through the application process; please use previous usernames & passwords if you have registered with eGrant in the past.  You will also be asked to copy and paste your essay into the application.
  3. Read & answer ALL qualifying questions.  MACF will match you to as many scholarships as possible.
  4. Write one original essay as instructed. Certain scholarships may require additional essays.
  5. Order your official transcript. Transcripts must be sent from an educational institution.  High school transcripts must be requested through eGrant (part of the application process):

  1. Select two references and ask for their email addresses.  Email them a request and a link to upload their letter of reference directly to your application via eGrant. Letters must come from this person as they will not be accepted from applicants.  Reference letters must be submitted by February 28, 2020.


  • You must request your MHS High School transcript by February 28, 2020 so MACF can receive it by the March 1st deadline.  You will NOT be able to submit your final application until MACF has received both reference letters and your transcript.
  • If applying for need-based scholarships you must include the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) page from your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Be sure to complete the FAFSA two weeks in advance of the March 1st deadline.  Accepted forms from the EFC include: 1) the page that is displayed immediately after submission of the FAFSA and 2) the email that is sent to you after your FAFSA submission.  Save either document as a PDF and attach it to your eGrant application.
  • The following materials must be completely submitted by 5:00 p.m. on March 1, 2020:
    • 2 Reference Forms
    • Official Transcript
    • Electronic eGrant application (including all essays)

You will NOT be able to submit your application until your reference letters and transcripts have been received.

Scholarship Notification:  Notification letters will be sent to all applicants the first week of May, 2020 with their scholarship award status. All recipients and donors will be invited to attend the Scholarship Awards Night at Northwood University in June 2020.

Michigan Education Association (MEA) Scholarship

Eligibility Criteria:

1) Dependent of MEA member in good standing or MEA-Retired member

2) Graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA bargaining unit

3) Will attend or is currently an undergraduate student of a Michigan public community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution, or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification or license. Those attending the following private institutions ONLY are also eligible: Baker College-Flint/Owosso; University of Detroit–Mercy; Adrian College; Finlandia University and Albion College (The aforementioned private institutions are existing local MEA affiliates).

Priority is given on the basis of Academic achievement, extra-curricular activities and school and community service.

Covenant HealthCare Scholarships

Covenant HealthCare Foundation will award six $2,000 non-renewable scholarships to graduating seniors planning to pursue an undergraduate degree in the human medical sciences or a field directly related to the health care industry.  Graduating seniors who are currently attending Saginaw, Bay, Tuscola, Arenac, Huron, Sanilac, Gratiot or Midland county high schools are eligible to apply.


For the Covenant HealthCare Volunteers’ Scholarship, priority will be given to applicants who have volunteered in a health related field. 


Applications should be typewritten as much as possible.  Completed applications should include a copy of your high school transcript, a copy showing your composite ACT or SAT score, two recommendations, and must be submitted by February 28, 2020.

The Huggable Supermom Scholarship

The Huggable SuperMom Scholarship

At Huggable, we know that being a new mother is not a walk in the park. With a million things on your to-do list, it’s hard to find time for yourself. For the single mothers among us, it is that much harder to make everything work as you get your little one off to the best start possible. For the Huggable Supermom Scholarship we focus on supporting single moms, children of single moms, or people whose lives have been impacted in positive ways by single moms. Put simply, the Huggable Supermom Scholarship is a student scholarship designed to support single mothers and those who support them and benefit from their love.

Getting a degree is incredibly high-leverage for single mothers -- and for those around them. The potential for long-term improvement in quality of life is enormous. At Huggable, we believe that’s a cause -- and opportunity -- worth focusing on.

That is why we have created The Huggable Supermom Scholarship. With this program, our mission is to make things a little easier for single mothers and their loved ones. We are giving high school scholarship winners $1,000 toward the cost of pursuing their degrees. College scholarship winners receive $2,000 as well as a $1,000 gift certificate to Huggable for organic baby formula.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a graduating High School Senior in your final semester who has been accepted to a university or must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a 4-year, 2-year, vocational or technical institution in the United States
  • Must be a US Citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Must be a single mother, child of a single mother, or closely impacted by a single mother
  • All fields of study and GPAs will be considered
