Medical with Vision Insurance

MPS benefit-eligible employees electing medical insurance coverage are automatically enrolled with employee-only vision insurance coverage. MPS employees pay a premium for their medical insurance based on a percentage of their wages with no additional cost for employee-only vision insurance coverage. Medical insurance is provided through MESSA/BCBS. Eligible MPS employees are enrolled in the MESSA ABC 1 Plan, which is a High Deductible Health Plan with a Health Savings Account (administered by Health Equity). MESSA’s ABC 1 Plan includes Prescription Drug coverage. MESSA’s Customer Service number is 1-800-336-0013. Or you can log on to their website at www.messa.org.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

MPS benefit-eligible employees have access to a Health Savings Account through their Medical Insurance Plan. Midland Public Schools contributes funds to the employee’s HSA to help cover part of the cost of the deductible.

  • For 2024, MPS will contribute $1,275 per year for single coverage. $2,525 per year for 2-person or family coverage.*

*Pro-rated amounts may apply.

Employees have the opportunity to deposit additional money to their HSA pre-tax from their paychecks. There are IRS guidelines each year that set the maximum amount allowed to be contributed to an HSA plan (employer and employee combined). The Health Savings Account is provided through Health Equity. Vision Insurance

MPS benefit-eligible employees do not pay a premium for their single vision insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. There is an option to add dependents to your vision insurance at a cost to the employee. Vision Insurance is provided through MESSA/VSP-3 Plus (Vision Services Plan). The customer service number for VSP is 1-800-877-7195. Dental Insurance

MPS benefit-eligible employees do not pay a premium for their dental insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. Dental insurance is provided through CIGNA. The customer service number for Cigna is 1-800-244-6224. You can create an account to see details of your dental coverage and use at www.mycigna.com.

Life/AD&D Insurance

MPS benefit-eligible employees do not pay a premium for their Life/AD&D insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. Life/AD&D insurance is provided through Reliance Standard Life Insurance Co. Eligible employees receive a life insurance benefit of two times their salary, rounded up to the next thousand. AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment) has a schedule of benefits for loss of life or limbs due to an accident, up to the life benefit. Beneficiary change forms are available on request from the Manager of Benefits.

LTD Insurance

MPS benefit-eligible employees do not pay a premium for their Long-Term Disability (LTD) insurance. It is a benefit provided by Midland Public Schools. LTD insurance is provided through Madison National Life. Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the LTD plan.
