August 13, 2025 - Midland Public Schools (MPS) proudly celebrated excellence on Tuesday, August 12, as it honored several employees with awards during the district’s 2025–2026 Opening Session. These annual awards recognize the dedication, innovation, and impact of MPS staff who go above and beyond to support students, colleagues, and the community.

Gerstacker Teacher Proficiency Awards
These awards, two for K-5th grade educators and two for 6th-12th grade educators, are given to recognize contributions by exemplary teachers beyond the ordinary level of professional performance. Gerstacker Teacher Proficiency Award winners are:

Administrators Inspiring Excellence Awards
This award is given to administrators who inspire excellence through exemplary leadership, dedication to students and staff, commitment to the district vision, and living the values of MPS.

Northeast Middle School principal Keith Seybert

The winner of the Administrators Inspiring Excellence Award is Keith Seybert, Northeast Middle School.

These awards were all made possible through the the generous support of the Esther and Carl Gerstacker Fund held at the Midland Area Community Foundation.

“Our annual awards are a powerful reminder that the strength of Midland Public Schools lies in the people who serve our students every day,” said MPS Superintendent Penny Miller Nelson. “Each of this year’s honorees exemplifies excellence, enthusiasm, and commitment to our students, families, and colleagues. We are grateful for their contributions and proud to celebrate their achievements as we prepare to begin another exciting school year at MPS.”
