Facility Planning

A pencil sits on a blueprint document

Following the 2025 Facilities Improvement Bond Proposal, which was not approved by voters, MPS remains committed to responsibly planning for the future of our facilities and amenities. The Board of Education has authorized an updated facility planning process to determine what our needs are and how we can address them in ways that the community can help develop and support.

This page will serve as the hub for all information related to the facility planning process at MPS. Check back often for updated videos, recent news, and more!

The Process

Part 1 - Facility Assessment

MPS and Board-selected partners Clark Construction Company, GMB Architecture + Engineering, and Three Rivers Corporation worked together to conduct an updated comprehensive facilities assessment and pre-bond planning study to evaluate the condition and long-term needs of all district buildings and sites. The study reviewed each facility’s infrastructure, safety, accessibility, technology, and educational spaces to identify areas for improvement. Findings from the assessment will help the district prioritize maintenance and modernization needs, align facility planning with educational goals, and develop a roadmap for future investments in MPS. (Check out the video library below for the latest updates!)

This assessment will provide updated, data-driven information to help the district make informed decisions about facility needs and potential funding options. The process will ensure that future planning efforts are transparent, community-informed, and aligned with the district’s long-term educational goals.

Assessment of both building structural components and educational spaces began in November 2025 and concluded in late January 2026, followed by detailed analysis, cost estimating, and review with MPS staff and Board committees. The final report was presented to the Board of Education at its regular meeting on Monday, March 16, at 7 p.m. Check out the buttons below to read the assessment and watch the presentation.

Part 2 - Facility Planning

Blueprint for Tomorrow Steering Team

In addition to a team of experts reviewing our facilities, we know we also need community members who can provide insight into their experiences in the district. We've assembled a team of MPS parents/guardians, alumni, staff, business leaders, and community members, called the Blueprint for Tomorrow Steering Team, to offer diverse perspectives and unique experiences that will review assessment data, give input on various topics, and help guide the facility planning process.

Since its initial meeting in mid-February, the team has met approximately once per week to discuss a common theme or topic led by partner GMB. Their time together includes presentations, roundtable discussions, information sharing, and tours of MPS facilities, including Dow High School, the Carpenter Pre-Primary Center, Woodcrest Elementary School, and Northeast Middle School.
