In-District Transfers & Non-Resident School of Choice Enrollment Opens December 8!
Second-semester School of Choice enrollment for the 2025-2026 academic year opens December 8, 2025, and will close at 11:59 pm on December 14, 2025. Students entering kindergarten through 12th grade who live outside the Midland Public Schools district and are not currently enrolled with MPS can apply.
The number of seats per grade/per building can be found here or by clicking the School of Choice graphic in this section. If more applications are received than there are seats available, students with siblings already attending the same building will be given priority. A random lottery drawing will then be held to fill any remaining seats.
The parent or legal guardian who completed the application will be notified via email of the status of their application on or before Thursday, December 18, 2025.
What is School of Choice?
In Michigan, Schools of Choice programs provide students with additional enrollment opportunities, from allowing students to determine which school within the resident district they attend (in-district transfers) to allowing non-resident students to enroll in a district other than the one in which they live (non-resident School of Choice).
At MPS, seats for non-resident School of Choice are very limited. If there are more applicants than seats for a specific grade/building, we prioritize siblings of current students, followed by a lottery drawing for the remaining seats.
Enrolling in School for the First Time
If you have a student starting school for the first time: Congratulations! We're excited to have your student starting their educational journey with MPS. With the start of that journey often comes additional forms, state requirements, and other information that isn't relevant to returning students.
