Purpose
The purpose of the MPS Superintendent Student Advisory Team (SSAT) is to provide high school students with an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue with the superintendent. The SSAT provides a venue to amplify student voices and the exchange of ideas, feedback, perspectives, and insights that will improve the student experience at Midland Public Schools.

Participants

  • Student representatives from H.H. Dow High School, Midland High School, and PATHS (approximately 15 students total are selected)
  • Superintendent and Associate Superintendents
  • School staff and other students by invitation and based on the topic

Student Selection

Interested students can apply to join SSAT using this application.

SSAT members will reflect the diversity of the student population at MPS. If the applicant pool does not provide appropriate diversity, the Superintendent will collaborate with the principal to identify and invite specific students.

A selection team may include:

  • The Superintendent team
  • An administrator or staff from each school
    A representative of the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment team
  • MPS Director of Family & Community Engagement and Belonging

Selection Timeline

 Application opens: Friday, October 3
 Application closes: Monday, October 13
 Students notified of decision: Monday, October 20
 First SSAT meeting: Thursday, October 30



SSAT Member Expectations

  • Engage with trust, respect, and courage
  • Value and respect the diversity of MPS
  • Share perspectives, ideas, insights, and feedback about the student experience at MPS
  • Work collaboratively in the spirit of continuous improvement to identify effective practices to spread throughout the district and identify areas of needed improvement
  • Consider the experience of all MPS students
  • Commit to serving on SSAT for the full school year and attend all sessions. Assistance with transportation will be provided as needed to reduce barriers to student participation.
  • The SSAT may collaboratively develop additional expectations.
